R-Jolad was founded in 1982 by Dr. Oladipo and was developed over the course of 37 years into a 100-bed secondary care hospital serving the Lagos healthcare market
In 1982, The hospital was founded by Dr. & Mrs. R.F Oladipo using a leased building in Gbagada.
The hospital had 10 admission beds, a labour room, a minor theatre and a treatment room.
In 1985, the hospital acquired a land space in Gbagada, intending to build a hospital, creating more 40 beds.
In 1987, the hospital leased a building close to the existing 10-bed facility. The building was converted into a 20-bed hospital.
In 1990 the first part of the main hospital building was acquired, and the renovation of this extended the hospital bed size to a 70-bed hospital, by 2002, the adjacent building to the main hospital was acquired. This expansion increased the bed capacity within the building to 100 beds.
In 2012, the acquisition of more land space to carter for the Administrative block and the car park was also acquired, and in 2013 R-Jolad Plus was completed and began operation with 22 beds. The Administrative block was renovated to further accommodate staff and offices.
In 2016, the hospital acquired a 640 SQM plot opposite the R-Jolad Plus building for further expansion.
Between 2018 and 2020, the hospital purchased 68 new beds and acquired several other medical equipment, N22.1M and N17.4M worth of investment in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Also, the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software was deployed, as the hospital began a gradual movement from paper-based records to the integration of the e-recording platform for the patients' records. The hospital building now then operates as RJolad Standard and RJolad PLUS, with an Administrative block and its car parking space.
In July 2020, AfyA Care Nigeria Limited acquired R-Jolad Hospital, as a single-location private secondary hospital with 100 beds in Lagos, Nigeria. The organization was restructured to close communication gaps and improve operational efficiencies.
In 2021, the hospital's physical infrastructure was improved. A project worth over N150M Budget to improve the physical infrastructure span across the revamp of the exterior of the main building, redesign the interior services space i.e. the waiting areas, consulting rooms, pharmacy, upgrade of the Laboratory, the General and Private wards, Children wards and the neonatal, Labour ward redesign, conversion of the operating rooms to a modernize theatre suite and the acquisition of sophisticated equipment to complement this new development ultimately enhancing service delivery in the Hospital.
AfyA Care Nigeria acquired Kupa Medical Centre and EROM Diagnostics, along Airport Road, Isolo in a bundled deal in July 2022, an acquisition process that began in 2021. Kupa Medical Centre was integrated into R-Jolad Hospital and renamed R-Jolad KUPA, increasing hospital capacity to 135 beds, and making EROM our standalone diagnostics company.
In June 2022, the organization openned a new 50-bed R-Jolad secondary Hospital at Agege, regarded as R-Jolad Salem House, the then-old Salem Hospital. By July, the hospital launched its first Primary care Centre at Bariga, a Doctor-Led Clinic
In August 2022, the organization began the renovation of R-Jolad KUPA which spanned through the uplifting of the exterior, redesign of the interior services space ie the waiting area, consulting rooms, pharmacy, and upgrade of the Labour ward, and Operating Room and the acquisition of sophisticated medical equipment to complement the upgrade which was completed in Q3 2023.
In Q4, 2022, the hospital secured accreditation to train Resident Doctors and House Officers across our hospital branches.
As of April 2023, the organization launched a modernized 5-storey building, a 30-bed hospital, which is now named the new R-Jolad Plus Hospital in Gbagada, expanding our capacity to 215 beds. And, in May, R-Jolad became accredited as a SafeCare Level 4 Hospital
In July, the hospital launched its 2nd primary care center in Pen Cinema, Agege, intending to bring affordable healthcare services to the low-income group
In November 2023 the organization launched its first polyclinic suited in Jara Mall, Ikeja. This serves a more clinical function with the integration of ultra scan, X-ray and Dental Services.
